The data below comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Google Trends<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/meetglimpse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Glimpse<\/a>, and highlights how many people in the UK search for e-bike-related topics each month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In April 2026, 1.4 million people in the UK made searches relating to the topic of \u2018electric bikes\u2019, marking a renewed interest that, for the first time, matched a peak last seen in 2020.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monthly UK searches for \u2018e-bike\u2019 increased by 77% between August 2025 and July 2026, reaching an all-time high of 88,000 in April.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Related topics trending over the same window, when compared to the previous 12 months, include:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>E-bike price (+550%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>E-bike rental (+300%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>E-bike insurance (+150%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018E-bike verified trust tags&#8217; became a breakout term in 2026 (5,000% + increase in monthly UK searches). One in five UK adults (22%) say they are interested in owning an electric bike, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/bikebiz.com\/the-e-bike-opportunity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"BikeBiz\">BikeBiz<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>YouGov research on public engagement with electric bicycles found that 15% of UK adults have used an e-bike, either currently or previously (<a href=\"https:\/\/yougov.com\/en-gb\/articles\/52794-cost-convenience-and-access-top-barriers-to-e-bike-adoption-in-the-uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">YouGov<\/a>). Uptake was most common in ages 18-24 (22%).\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Leisure is by far the most common reason for using one, cited by two-thirds of respondents (66%).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other popular reasons are exercise (24%), commuting (21%) and shopping or running errands (14%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>39% of UK adults in a sustainable transport survey said that a reason for buying or considering buying an electric bike was to tackle journeys that are \u2018too long\u2019 for a conventional bicycle (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/org\/science\/article\/pii\/S1556831822000715#:~:text=For%20journeys%20that%20are%20too%20long%20for%20riding%20a%20conventional%20bike\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">International Journal of Sustainable Transportation<\/a>).\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>54% choose e-bikes because they are \u2018less effort to ride than a conventional bike\u2019 while 26% choose them \u2018to avoid car parking problems or costs\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>25% choose e-bikes because they are less expensive than driving, and 15% because they are less expensive than public transport.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>47% of car owners say that e-bikes are a suitable alternative to cars for shorter journeys (<a href=\"https:\/\/plc.autotrader.co.uk\/news-views\/press-releases\/nearly-half-of-car-owners-believe-e-bikes-could-replace-shorter-car-journeys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">AutoTrader<\/a>). Another research study found that 51% of new electric bike riders reduced their car journeys and mileage (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingelectric.com\/news\/study-e-bike-riders-drive-less-trips\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Cycling Electric<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Many e-bikes can also replace longer journeys. While covering a distance of 30-60 miles before recharging is the norm, models are available that can go 250 miles before you need to plug back in (<a href=\"https:\/\/linkyinnovation.com\/e-bike-riding-range-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Linky Innovation<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"E-bike-sales-statistics\">E-bike sales statistics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While e-bikes are seen as crucial to reducing car dependency, the UK seems to lag in this shift, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingelectric.com\/in-depth\/european-electric-bike-sales-overtake-bicycle-sales\">trailing behind<\/a> other European countries in terms of sales. Nonetheless, e-bike sales in the UK are gaining momentum, according to the below figures from Statista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In 2024, around 146,000 e-bikes were sold across the UK<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1353317\/electric-bike-sales-european-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a>. When calculating this by capita, the UK sold just 2.1 electric bikes per 1,000 people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Germany and France sold the highest volume of e-bikes in 2024 at 2.1 million and 565,230 units, respectively<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1353317\/electric-bike-sales-european-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"2\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a>. Though when considering population size, Norway and Denmark sold more per capita than any other country (36.2 and 36.1 per 1,000 people).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>11.36% of bicycles sold in the UK in 2024 were e-bikes, up from just 0.86% in 2015<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1475070\/e-bike-market-share-united-kingdom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a>. This is forecasted to continue growing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The average price of a new e-bike is falling, with the European average dropping to \u20ac2,350 in 2023, a drop of -5.7% compared to the \u20ac2,492 average in 2022.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1396568\/average-e-bike-price-in-europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"4\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The global market for electric bicycles is predicted to grow by 16.8 billion US dollars in the next 5 years, meaning it will be worth $51.78billion by 2029<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/674381\/size-global-market-electric-bicycles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"5\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paul\u2019s Cycles saw a 95% increase in e-bike revenue between January and June 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">E-bike safety statistics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXfyv68o_nv6P1LfUYk7OXbUFNLcVywvzbNHu2wKh1feSfDrXWvwk2Xtd5_z1HcysnIF7aY6GoiV46q7aMZLHQxB-gSmSB9UsqRwjac8yuWJkFCoeVP8clYdczcz09FF1-9rKKh7G-vlj8qT7QJn80EFFmB0?key=5rY_tXtLLH5HKEzA9vtUvw\" alt=\"Icon representing an electric bike, with text underneath that reads \u201cE-bike speed limit: Motor stops at 15.5 mph\u201d. Online searches related to this type of transport have become a breakout trend in the last 5 years, meaning interest has increased by more than 5,000% (Google Trends\/Glimpse &#8211; July 2021 to June 2026 &#8211; UK only).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transport for London\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/content.tfl.gov.uk\/travel-in-london-2025-active-travel-trends-acc.pdf\">2025 <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/content.tfl.gov.uk\/travel-in-london-2025-active-travel-trends-acc.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">active <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/content.tfl.gov.uk\/travel-in-london-2025-active-travel-trends-acc.pdf\">travel report<\/a> shows that 31% of all cycling trips in the city are made by people commuting to and from work, with an additional 8% of trips for other work-related reasons.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>E-bikes were introduced to London\u2019s Santander Cycles scheme in 2022 and the use of these more than doubled between 2023 and 2025. Between January and September 2025, more than 1,240,889 e-bike trips were undertaken. This accounts for 18% of all journeys, compared to just 6% in 2023. with most of these trips being commuters.
